Death
Personal Wishes and Advance Directives
Relieve your loved ones from having to make difficult decisions regarding
your death and funeral. Personal Wishes and Advance Directives can be a blessed
gift to your loved ones, relieving them of these difficult decisions at a
time of great grief and stress. You may wish to talk with the pastors as you
consider these important matters. Call Pat Kimbrell at 404-228-7719 for details.
Funerals, Memorial Services and Receptions
When someone you love is dying or has died, we are here for spiritual support, as well as funeral or memorial service plans, whichever you prefer. (See Memorial Garden under this section). With the help of volunteers, Care Ministry can provide food for a simple reception at the church following the service. Stephen Ministers (fellow members of FPC who have been specially trained to provide comfort and support to you in times of need) serve as ushers and/or greeters for funeral and memorial services. We are here for you in your time of grief. Call Pat Kimbrell at 404-228-7719.
Memorial Garden (Brochure)
Perhaps you would like to consider establishing a memorial for your loved one. If your loved one is buried elsewhere, a plaque can be placed here. Or your loved one's ashes may be placed here at your church home. The Chapel Memorial Garden is a sacred place outside Winship Chapel and is available to members and their families. A place in this beautiful garden can be reserved in advance or attained at the time of death. Call Pat Kimbrell at 404-228-7719 for details.
Stephen Ministry
Comfort and support are available to you through trained lay people - your fellow church members who have had extensive training to provide emotional and spiritual support to you in your hours of need. You can call the Care Office at 404-228-7719 to request a visit or phone call from a Stephen Minister. These caring people are also available every Sunday morning following worship services. And they often help with memorial services and funerals, serving as ushers and greeters. (See Death Services).
Grief Seminars
Grief seminars are offered every year, usually in the spring and fall. The seminars give people opportunity to work through the grief process with others who are experiencing the pain of loss. Each seminar includes four sessions which are led by Rev. Chris Moore-Keish, Parish Associate for our Pastoral Care Ministry.
