Whether we are working inside the doors of First Presbyterian Church, or out in the local, national, or international community, we are devoted to a nonstop ministry to those in need. Led by a team of volunteers and staff, our Community Outreach program is multi-faceted.
Local Outreach
We offer a Sunday Morning Prayer Breakfast for homeless persons every Sunday where members of our homeless community are offered a warm meal, a place to rest weary feet, and the opportunity to worship together under the leadership of Rev. Charles Black.
Weekday Community Outreach primarily focuses on two groups: the working poor who need emergency assistance in making ends meet because of illness, temporary job loss, or reduced work time; and assistance for homeless members of our community. The Venable Food Pantry, Men's Clothing Closet, Foot Care Ministry, and Mentoring Ministry all fulfill basic material needs, like fresh socks or food for a meal or two.
The Edna R. Wardlaw Coker Women's Shelter serves as a transitional shelter for women who have hit a rough patch in life. Counseling services, room, board, and assistance with transitional matters are all an important part of this ministry.
FPC couldn't support so many Community Outreach ministries without the help of volunteers. For more information on the programs and what you can do to help out, please click here: Community Outreach.
National & International Mission
Service to the community doesn't stop at the doors to FPC. Over many years, we have established partnerships in several countries, including Haiti, Kenya, Brazil, Jamaica, and Honduras. Several times a year there are mission trips scheduled to these areas and many others. For more information on our Mission work, click here: Mission.
