Worship

Worship services at First Presbyterian Church of Atlanta are the heart of our experience together as a Christian community of faith. From the moment you enter our beautiful sanctuary, you will feel the presence of Jesus Christ and the peace of God.

In inspirational worship services, we come together as a community of faith to praise God with scripture, sermons, amazing music, and prayer. Every Sunday, we offer Communion as part of our Communion Worship Service at 8:30. Many times throughout the year, we take Communion during regular worship services.  All are welcome all to take part in our worship services, and we invite all who proclaim Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior to take Communion.

Service TimesChurch Front

Our Sunday Services are at 10:15 am on Sundays from Memorial Day through Labor Day. During the regular church year, services are at 9:00 am and 11:15 am, with a few one-service Sundays throughout the year. Services generally last about one hour. We hold a shorter Communion Service every Sunday, year round, at 8:30 am in the Chapel.

We also worship as part of our Wednesdays @  First programming. Wednesday evening worship changes weekly, with a mix of styles including Taize, Study Worship, and more traditional worship.

Worship Style

Sunday Worship Services at FPC are traditional. You'll hear outstanding sacred music from our organ, Chancel Choir, and sometimes our Orchestral and Bell ensembles. You will probably stand up and sit down a couple times (if you are able), as we share in our hymns and litanies. And, you'll hear a thought-provoking sermon from Dr. George Wirth or one of our Associate Pastors. Most families with young children choose to attend the 9:00 am worship, which includes our Children's Moment. A few times throughout the year, we partake in Holy Communion during Worship services.

Children in WorshipWorship

We welcome children to First Presbyterian Church.  Infants,Toddlers, and Young Preschoolers (2 and under) are welcome in the Nursery-Preschool Ministry for childcare provided by professional caregivers.

Older Preschoolers and Young Elementary Children (Ages 3 through Second Grade) are welcome to participate in the first part of 9:00 am worship, and leave for their classes after the Children's Moment. Preschoolers who want to are welcome to join the Cherub Choir rehearsals.  Others go on to their classes on the Nursery-Preschool Hall.

Young Elementary Children (First and Second Graders) leave worship to attend Worship Education, where they learn about all aspects of Worship.  Older Elementary Children (Third through Fifth Grades) remain in worship with their families and join their Sunday School classes during the Sunday School hour. Jr. and Sr. High Youth participate in worship with their families, and join together for Sunday School.

Worship Activity Bags, which include Bibles, bible games, crayons, and other activities for young children are available at the front sanctuary door next to the reception desk.

The Christian Education hour is at 9:00 am during the summer, and at 10:05 am during the "regular" school year.  For more detailed information on our programs for all ages, please click here: Christian Education
