Special Services Advent and Christmas On the four Sundays before Christmas, and throughout the weeks in between, First Presbyterian Church celebrates the coming birth of our Lord Jesus Christ. Our Advent services, which are a beloved tradition in this church, include sacred music of the season and lighting of advent candles On Christmas Eve, we have three services: a family service at 4:00; a candlelight communion service at 5:30; and, at 10:30, a service of lessons and carols with youth and chancel choirs and orchestra. Lent, Holy Week, and Easter During Lent, we move toward Easter and celebration of the resurrection of Jesus Christ. The week before Easter, we have services each day at noon, followed by a light lunch. On Maundy Thursday, we remember Jesus' last supper by sharing communion in small groups at the homes of church members. We culminate our Lenten observance in the shadows of a candle-lit Tennebrae service on the evening of Good Friday. On Easter Sunday, in every service we joyfully celebrate the resurrection of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Healing Services Healing Services are held three times each year on Wednesday evenings, and upon request. In this meditative service of song, prayer and silence, we seek to open our lives go God’s Spirit through repeated singing, reading of Psalms and prayers. This is followed by anointing and praying for healing with laying on of hands, prayers of thanksgiving and a blessing. Call our Care office at 404-228-7719 for dates or to request a special service. First Presbyterian Church provides a beautiful, sacred setting for weddings. Couples interested in being married at First Presbyterian who are not members must have a significant connection with the church. To schedule your wedding, contact our Wedding Director, Donna Tabaka at 404-228-7765. She will be your initial contact with the church and will meet with you to discuss your plans and arrangements. For more information, please see our Wedding Ministry page. Funerals & Memorial Services When someone you love is dying or has died, we are here to provide spiritual support, and assist with funeral or memorial service plans. With the help of volunteers, Care Ministry can provide food for a simple reception at the church following the service. Stephen Ministers (fellow members of FPC who have been specially trained to provide comfort and support to you in times of need) serve as ushers and/or greeters for funeral and memorial services. We are here for you in your time of grief. Call Pat Kimbrell at 404-228-7719. Flower Ministry
