Today’s Scripture
Today’s Author
Tony Sundermeier
From the scripture passage this morning, I am struck by a particular line. In this text, Paul is making the case as to why he is trustworthy. He and his companions are not like other slick orators of his time but literally embody the message of the Gospel. They don’t just speak it. They live it out. And so, they not only proclaim, they also live. Here is that particular line, verse eight to be precise:
So deeply do we care for you that we are determined to share with you not only the gospel of God but also our own selves, because you have become very dear to us.
Paul and his companions do more than preach. They present more than just highly polished oratory skills. They present their whole lives. There is something to be said about their witness. There is something to be said about the Gospel. It is not just spoken but lived out and shared in our common life.
My friend Shane Claiborne once wrote, “Most good things have been said far too many times and just need to be lived.” And this is the encouragement I would bring you today: that the Gospel of God – the Good News of Jesus Christ – would be fleshed out and embodied and lived in your life and in my life. That, like Paul and his companions, our lives would be marked by care and concerns for others.
Summer Devotional
God Goes With Us
This summer’s devotional is a walk through the Bible. Join our pastors and staff for daily reflections on scripture passages from Genesis to Revelation. In the beginning, God said, “I will be your God and you will be my people.” Come and see how this covenant promise changes through time yet remains steadfast from generation to generation.
Each Sunday, Chris Holmes will share a short message on the texts for the week, and written reflections will go out every Monday through Thursday morning.
We wish you blessings and deeper faith this summer!
