Today’s Scripture

Mathew 9:27-30

Today’s Author

Kate Culver

The healing of the two blind men in Matthew is the last in the series of healings, and with this short passage, we learn a very important truth about faith. As Jesus continues to make his way through the countryside, he does so without pretense; he is dressed in humble clothing and dirty from traveling. Two blind men follow him crying, “Have mercy on us, Son of David!” Addressing Jesus in this way acknowledges Jesus as the son of David, and with that, the fulfillment of the promise of the messianic king found in Isaiah.

In response, Jesus turns to the men and questions them on their faith. Do they really believe he has the power to heal them? “Yes, Lord,” they respond. With that, they are healed, showing us that despite their inability to see with their eyes, they already see with their hearts and their minds. Because they are open to seeing this unlikely character, Jesus, for who he truly is, they are healed by their faith.

Faith is about being open to the possibility of the impossible. In following Jesus, we are called to have minds and hearts that are open to seeing the beauty and wonder of creation. In a world filled with doubt, I pray that we can remain receptive to impossibility.

Summer Devotional

God Goes With Us

This summer’s devotional is a walk through the Bible. Join our pastors and staff for daily reflections on scripture passages from Genesis to Revelation. In the beginning, God said, “I will be your God and you will be my people.” Come and see how this covenant promise changes through time yet remains steadfast from generation to generation.

Each Sunday, Chris Holmes will share a short message on the texts for the week, and written reflections will go out every Monday through Thursday morning.

We wish you blessings and deeper faith this summer!
